GIS

The GIS staff provides mapping services for the various departments, local governments, businesses, and individuals. This is accomplished using a Geographic Information System (GIS) a system for creating and managing spatial data and attributes. Local governments use GIS for planning and zoning, property assessment, land records, parcel mapping, public safety, and environmental planning. GIS services that the COG offers include an interactive mapping website (www.regismaps.com), geodata, base maps, orthophotography, digitizing and georeferencing, GPS, Census maps, HUD income maps, political boundary maps, and large format scanning and printing.

Large Format Scanning And Printing

The GIS department has the capability to provide large format scanning and printing for conversion of paper maps, blueprints or mylars up to 40 wide into digital files (JPEG or TIFF format) in both color and black and white. Digital maps can be saved to CD or DVD allowing governments and agencies to backup critical documents for archival storage. With this service, local areas can quickly recover in the event of a disaster and can avoid the problems of deteriorating paper maps. Additionally, GIS staff can provide digitizing services to convert paper maps into digital GIS format.
