Census 2010 in the Lower Savannah Region
Lower Savannah Council of Governments has partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau to help promote Census 2010 in the Lower Savannah region of Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun, and Orangeburg Counties.
In March of this year, every household will receive a short 10 question form!! It is extremely important for every household to fill out and return this form because census data determines the amount of federal money allocated to communities, the accuracy of community planning efforts, and the amount of congressional representation a community is entitled to.
Is it Safe?
It is understood that there is a much greater need to protect your identity and crucial personal information in this day and age. The following is in place to protect the confidentiality of all U.S. residents:
- It is Federal law that Census Bureau cannot share an individual's responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement agencies. Census workers violating this law are subject to stiff fines and prison terms.
- All census workers swear an oath to protect the personal information of all residents.
- The Census is conducted through mail, phone, or personal contact only.
