Natural Hazard Mitigation Plans are required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for all counties in the State of South Carolina.
These plans represent the commitment to reduce the risks from natural hazards, serving as a guide for decision makers as they commit resources to reducing the effects of natural hazards.
They also serves as a guide for the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) in its effort to provide technical assistance and to prioritize project funding for South Carolina's counties and municipalities.
The goal of any Hazard Mitigation Plan is to reduce the human and economic costs of natural disasters.
Natural Hazard Mitigation Plans provide a comprehensive risk assessment, problem assessment, mitigation goals, and implementation schedule for the counties and each of the municipalities within their boundaries.
