LSCOG's Planning staff have been assisting many municipalities throughout the region in the development of land use plans. In 1994 the SC Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act was enacted to help communities establish a standardized method of developing comprehensive land use plans.
Comprehensive land use plans can take many months to complete. The LSCOG assists counties and towns to gather all the necessary input that they will need. Meetings are held with the various Planning Committees over several months. Housing inventories, existing land use, population trends and other factors are taken into consideration. The process becomes complete after public hearings, review and adoption of the plan are implemented.
